Dr. Dominika Pilat is a research fellow within the Genetics and Aging Research Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital and the McCance Center for Brain Health. She received her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Aix-Marseille University, where she studied the membrane metalloproteinase MT5-MMP as a therapeutic target in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), followed by postdoctoral training at Mass General and Harvard Medical School under the mentorship of Dr. Ana Griciuc and the direction of Dr. Rudolph E. Tanzi. Dr. Pilat’s research investigates how mutations in the innate immune risk genes, namely TREM2 and CD33 shape microglial states and drive AD pathogenesis. Her work also encompasses the development of precision gene therapy strategies, including nanoparticle-mediated siRNA delivery, to modulate microglial function in AD. Dr. Pilat has received several honors, including the Warren Alpert Foundation Distinguished Scholar Fellowship in Neuroscience and the BrightFocus Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship.
