Duran-Aniotz

Dr. Claudia Duran-Aniotz is a neurobiologist and Associate Professor at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile. She is the Director of the Latin American Brain Health Institute, BrainLat, Director of the Translational Neuroscience Laboratory, and a Global Brain Health Institute Fellow. She leads the biological component of the Multi-Partner Consortium to Expand Dementia Research in Latin America, ReDLat, a regional initiative dedicated to characterizing dementia and aging through harmonized clinical, cognitive, biomarker, neuroimaging, genetic, and social determinants data. Using this regional platform, her work examines how social determinants of health and lifestyle factors shape dementia biology, biomarker profiles, and disease trajectories. A central goal of her research is to advance precision brain health in historically underrepresented populations by integrating molecular, clinical, cognitive, imaging, and contextual data to improve early diagnosis and care, including a dedicated focus on women’s brain health. Beyond her laboratory work, Dr. Duran-Aniotz is actively involved in regional and international initiatives aimed at reducing gaps in dementia research, diagnosis, and care, including the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium on Dementia, LAC-CD. She works with clinicians, researchers, policymakers, patient organizations, and community partners to help ensure that scientific discoveries translate into meaningful benefits for individuals and families affected by dementia. She is also deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists in Latin America and strengthening regional capacity in brain health, biomarkers, and translational neuroscience.
