Biography
| Dr. Caleb Bailey is a fourth-year postdoctoral fellow at the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center in the laboratory of Dr. Linda Van Eldik. In 2017, Caleb received his undergraduate degree in Behavioral Neuroscience at East Tennessee State University where he investigated mechanism of associative learning underlying substance use disorders. In 2023, Dr. Bailey received his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Kentucky. He received numerous internal research awards and was one of the first to identify that neonatal alcohol exposure cements hippocampal tau phosphorylation – suggesting a mechanistic overlap in the neuroinflammatory biology of alcohol insult and neurodegenerative tauopathies. This line of work propelled Dr. Bailey to secure a postdoctoral Training in Translational Research in Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias (TRIAD) T32 award. Dr. Bailey continues to explore proof-of-concept, modifiable lifestyle factors, and therapeutic development in animal models of disease. With an eye toward translatability, Dr. Bailey is committed to blending preclinical models with nuanced behavioral techniques that produce functional readouts analogous to human cognition. In this pursuit, Dr. Bailey aims to better our understanding of the temporal dynamics of disease progression to refine therapeutic windows for treatment of neurodegeneration and dementias. |
