Xi Chen, PhD

Dr. Xi Chen is a postdoc scholar working with Dr. William Jagust at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Her research interest focuses on brain and behavioral changes in normal aging and early-stage Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Specifically, using cognitive testing, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Dr. Chen is interested in examining early changes in cognition, particularly memory, brain structure, and brain function in cognitively unimpaired older individuals who already have AD biomarkers but yet shown any behavioral symptoms. Dr. Chen completed her Ph.D. in Cognition and Neuroscience with Dr. Denise Park at the University of Texas at Dallas. She has worked in several major large-scale longitudinal projects and has experience working with multi-modal neuroimaging data in people across the adult lifespan. In addition to her expertise in cognitive aging and neuroimaging, Dr. Chen’s work also incorporates advanced statistical techniques that explore the use of data-driven approaches in identifying successful, normal, and pathological agers whose differences may reveal individual difference factors that can lead to distinctive cognitive consequences in aging.
