Ulrich Hengst, PhD
Ulrich Hengst, PhD, is an assistant professor of pathology and cell biology in the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and the Aging Brain at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, NY. He performed his graduate studies at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland, followed by postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Samie R. Jaffrey, MD, PhD, at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. Dr. Hengst’s work revolves around the question of how signaling pathways in neurons are compartmentalized between axons and cell bodies. By applying findings from his neurodevelopment studies to the problem of neurodegeneration, he hopes to establish novel avenues and aid discovery of the basic cellular and molecular pathways underlying AD.
