Sarah Pickles, PhD
Sarah Pickles received her undergraduate training in Biochemistry from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She continued her studies with a master’s degree in Neuroscience at McGill University and earned her doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Montreal under the mentorship of Dr. Christine Vande Velde. Her doctoral research examined the role mitochondrial dysfunction in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Following her doctorate, Sarah pursued a postdoctoral fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Richard Youle at the National Institutes of Health examining mitochondrial quality control in Parkinson’s disease. In 2017, Sarah joined Dr. Leonard Petrucelli’s laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville where she is actively pursuing research in biomarker discovery and elucidating molecular mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
