Kevin Beier, PhD
Dr. Kevin Beier’s lab is interested in the molecular and neural circuit basis of Alzheimer’s disease. He received his PhD from Harvard University in 2012, where he worked in the lab of Dr. Connie Cepko developing viruses for mapping neuronal circuits in rodent models. He then did his postdoctoral research in the labs of Drs. Robert Malenka and Liqun Luo at Stanford University, where he applied the viral-genetic methods that he developed to understand how midbrain dopamine circuits are wired and how they are modulated by experience. He currently is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology & Biophysics at the University of California, Irvine, where he is using his viral-genetic methods to interrogate how connectivity is altered in disease states, such as early in Alzheimer’s disease progression. His goal is to identify circuit and ultimately molecular biomarkers of disease and provide candidate targets for interventions to improve the quality of life for AD patients.
