Jurgen Naggert, PhD

I received my Master’s degree equivalent in chemistry from the University Erlangen in Germany, as well as a PhD degree in Biochemistry/Microbiology, which focused on mitochondrial genetics in yeast. Postdoctoral training in molecular biology, which focused on fatty acid metabolism, followed at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute in Oakland California. In 1991 I joined The Jackson Laboratory and was promoted to full professor in 1999. My laboratory has a long-standing interest in the genetics of complex diseases which we investigate by focusing on single gene mutations that contribute to these diseases as well as evaluating how these mutations interact with genetic background modifiers to affect disease pathology.
