Jiaxing Wang, PhD

Dr. Wang’s career in Ophthalmology started in 2007 after graduate from Tianjin Medical University in China. He started his post-graduate study in ophthalmology in 2007, and have practiced as ophthalmologist in Tianjin Medical University General Hospital in China from 2010 to 2016. He then joined Dr. Eldon Geisert’s lab at Emory University as a postdoctoral fellow in April 2016, working on the genetic modulation of retinal ganglion cell injury and optic nerve regeneration in recombinant inbred mouse strains. He received his Ph.D. degree in 2018 and became a research scientist in 2021. His research of interest mainly focuses on genetic networks associated with the risk of developing glaucoma, such as central corneal thickness, intraocular pressure and retinal ganglion cell response to injury, etc. Understanding the genetic causes of glaucoma will aid in early detection of individuals at risk for developing the disease, and it may lead to more effective treatments for this blinding disease. Other than basic scientific research, Dr. Wang also interested in clinical studies such as population-based study of myopia, ocular trauma, diabetic retinopathy and Meta-analysis for varies ocular diseases. He has authored over 40 peer reviewed publications, and also has contributed over 200 reviews for over 30 peer reviewed journals.
