Biography

Myles is an applied doctoral neuroscientist with a focus on how neuroinflammation contributes to the exacerbation of neurodegenerative diseases of the human brain. His current postdoctoral research addresses this question in the context of AD, the leading cause of dementia worldwide. His primary research project involves investigating the mechanisms by which microorganisms that colonize the host and their metabolites, termed the microbiome, regulate immune function and exacerbation of this devastating neurodegenerative disease. To facilitate his research interests, Myles fosters multiple cross-disciplinary collaborations through the Microbiome Center (University of Chicago, Argonne National Laboratory, and Marine Biology Laboratory) and fulfills his ongoing interests in scientific advocacy and commercialization practice.
