Dr. Jr-Jiun Liou is a scientist in bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, focusing on neuroimaging and neuropathology of Alzheimer’s disease in people with Down syndrome (DS). With a background in biochemistry and bioengineering, she uses high-resolution, high-contrast magnetic resonance imaging and high-throughput techniques to advance image analysis and to integrate antemortem neuroimaging with postmortem histopathological findings. Her ultimate goal is to elucidate the pathological mechanisms underlying the paradox of low hypertension risk yet increased cerebrovascular pathology in adults with DS and to improve neuroimage interpretation, thereby enhancing the precision of screening adults with DS for clinical trials.
