Bisbach

Celia Bisbach completed her B.S in Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015, and obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Washington Seattle in 2021. During her graduate studies, she developed her interest in vision science with Drs. Jim Hurley and Susan Brockerhoff to better understand how calcium dynamics and oxygen availability influence how photoreceptors produce the energy required to sustain vision. Following completion of her PhD, she left academic research and joined Targeted Protein Degradation team at Promega, where she developed tools and assays related to targeted degradation of extracellular proteins. After two years in industry, she elected to join Dr. David Gamm’s lab at that Waisman Center at UW-Madison as a postdoctoral researcher with the aim of merging her two interests: vision science and targeted protein degradation. Since 2024, she has worked to develop novel degrader molecules for ocular diseases, with a focus on neovascular Age-related Macular Degeneration.
