Biography

Dr. Boon is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at Mayo Clinic, and her research is dedicated to advancing our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) through the study of amyloid-ß pathology and its underlying mechanisms. Dr. Boon’s previous work at Amsterdam UMC, where she identified the “coarse-grained plaque” and conducted seminal studies on amyloid-ß deposits, provides a strong foundation for my current projects. Her efforts are further supported by several prestigious grants, including a fellowship from the Dutch Alzheimer’s Association and an Impulse Grant, which have enabled her to explore neuroinflammatory responses and other key aspects of AD pathology. Inspired by personal experiences with patients, Dr Boon’s ultimate goal is to predict AD neuropathology during life, thereby stratifying patients and tailoring treatments based on individual pathophysiological changes.
