Alyssa Ash

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Nathan Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NYU affiliate), a leading New York State mental health research facility in Dr. Abid Hussaini’s lab. I joined the lab in 2025 upon completing my PhD in Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia, under the D.M. Centre for Brain Health in Dr. Jason Snyder’s lab. In my PhD, I modelled early stage Alzheimer’s disease by targeting tau pathology expression to a brain circuit impacted early in disease, the Lateral Entorhinal Cortex-Hippocampal circuit and examined behavioural and morphological changes, as well as plasticity. I also studied adult hippocampal neurogenesis and circuitry in the dentate gyrus region. My work has been published in PLOS One, Journal of Neuroscience, and Neurobiology of Learning and Memory and I have presented at numerous international and domestic conferences, including Alzheimer’s Association International Conference and Society for Neuroscience. My research goals are focused on understanding the mechanisms of neurodegenerative disease progression, with the aim to provide insight from basic neuroscience to guide clinical research for diagnostic and therapeutic targets.
