Summary
Oxidative stress plays an important role in age-related pathophysiology such as Alzheimer’s disease. However, the effects of oxidative stress in the living brain with Alzheimer’s disease have not been clearly described. The objective of Dr. Choi’s project is to measure a molecule in the brain called Glutathione (GSH), which reflects the antioxidant defense system, and its regional variation in the living human brain to explain the role of oxidative stress in Alzheimer’s disease. The identification of an important biomarker in the living brain tissue will be particularly valuable for evaluating the effects of antioxidant therapy in patients with Alzheimer’s disease in the future.
