Donald Miller, PhD

Dr. Donald Miller is a Professor in the School of Optometry and the Graduate Program of Vision Science at Indiana University. He received his PhD in Optics from the University of Rochester and BS in physics from Xavier University. He continued on as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Rochester and then as a Research Associate in the Electro-Optics Sensor Technology Branch at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In 1998 he joined the faculty at Indiana University School of Optometry and currently holds the rank of Professor. He has pioneered the development and use of high-resolution optical systems for imaging the back of the eye based on the combined technologies of adaptive optics and optical coherence tomography. The cameras have opened a new window of opportunity to probe, noninvasively, the structure and function of the living retina at the cellular level in normal and diseased eyes in ways that have been traditionally limited to histology. Dr. Miller is a Fellow of Optica and SPIE, and a recipient of the Glen Fry Award, sponsored by the American Academy of Optometry Foundation (2020).
