Dr. Carmichael is an Associate Professor and Director of Biomedical Imaging at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center.  He completed undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the University of California, Berkeley. He then earned a PhD in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. After a postdoctoral fellowship in the Radiology Department at the University of Pittsburgh, he joined the faculty of the Neurology Department at the University of California, Davis, and then joined Pennington Biomedical in 2014. Dr. Carmichael is working to develop new biomedical imaging techniques and to use them to study brain aging and metabolic disorders. His research has been supported by the Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and other philanthropic foundations.
