BrightFocus Foundation President and CEO Stacy Pagos Haller issued the following statement regarding the passing of Glen Campbell.
On behalf of BrightFocus Foundation, I extend our deepest sympathies to the Campbell family. We are saddened and heartbroken to hear of Glen’s passing.
Glen and his family made a powerful decision to go public with their Alzheimer’s diagnosis. This selfless choice was a watershed moment in the effort to end this disease. By laying bare the raw emotions and setbacks of their lives, the Campbell family has helped lower the stigma often associated with Alzheimer’s. They have made great strides in bringing the disease out of the shadows.
I have been honored for the opportunity to work alongside Glen’s wife and children in our shared mission to support the science that will one day bring a cure. The family’s devotion, love, and resilience inspire all of us at BrightFocus. In this time of great sadness, our thoughts and our tears are with them.
Glen Campbell’s career as an entertainer spanned decades and all corners of the globe, bringing joy and happiness to generations. His impact now extends beyond the stage and the studio; the poignancy with which he pulled back the veil on Alzheimer’s has now created a second legacy. Because of Glen, more people are lending a helping hand to caregivers. Because of Glen, the search for a cure now has a greater sense of urgency and a greater base of supporters. Today is a sad day, and yet we also have a lot for which to be thankful.
We are deeply appreciative for all that Glen Campbell and his family have done for the Alzheimer’s community. In his memory, we will recommit ourselves to investing in the bold, innovative science that will someday end this terrible disease.
