Suman Chaudhary

Dr. Suman Chaudhary is a Research Fellow at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Massachusetts Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School, where her research is centered on uncovering the molecular pathways driving age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and translating these findings into innovative therapeutic strategies. She earned her Bachelor of Science from Panjab University, India, followed by a Master of Research in Biomedical Science from the University of Glasgow, UK. She subsequently served as a Junior Research Fellow at PGIMER, India, before being awarded the ICAR International Fellowship in 2014 to pursue her PhD in Medicine at Deakin University, Australia, where she pioneered nanoparticle-based drug delivery platforms with agro-medicinal applications.

Following doctoral training, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Case Western Reserve University in the Department of Pathology, investigating the roles of iron-regulating proteins, including hepcidin and the prion protein, in ocular and neurodegenerative diseases such as glaucoma, AMD, and Alzheimer’s disease. Since joining the D’Amore laboratory in 2022, her research has focused on the cytoprotective properties of PMC (2,2,5,7,8-pentamethyl-6-chromanol), demonstrating its ability to protect retinal pigment epithelial cells from oxidized low-density lipoprotein-induced damage through modulation of the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed publications comprising research articles, reviews, and book chapters. She reviews for more than 13 international journals and has presented at major national and international conferences. With broad expertise in molecular biology, in vitro and in vivo disease modeling, and drug delivery, Dr. Chaudhary is dedicated to advancing clinically viable therapeutics for AMD.
