Larsen

Dr. Petra P. Larsen is a clinician-scientist and ophthalmologist at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and the University Eye Hospital Bonn. At the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, she leads the ophthalmologic section of the Rhineland Study, a large ongoing prospective cohort study with more than 15,000 participants enrolled to date. Her research focuses on the etiology and preclinical detection of eye diseases. By integrating clinical expertise with molecular deep phenotyping, genetic epidemiology, high-resolution imaging of the eye and brain, and artificial intelligence, her group aims to characterize early structural and molecular changes along the pathophysiological continuum of ocular disease.

Dr. Larsen studied medicine at Heidelberg University, Germany, including a research fellowship at the University of Chicago, followed by ophthalmology residency at the University Eye Hospital Bonn (chair: Prof. F.G. Holz). She completed her PhD and postdoctoral training at the Bordeaux Population Health (BPH) Research Center in France (PI: Dr. Cécile Delcourt), where she gained advanced expertise in high-dimensional data analysis and predictive modeling.
