Biography
Mark Draelos is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan with a joint appointment between Robotics and Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. He has doctoral degrees in engineering and medicine through the Duke University Medical Scientist Training Program and worked as a physician during an intensive year-long surgical internship that coincided with the early COVID pandemic. His lab studies medical robotics and develops advanced intelligent tools to aid healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating disease, especially in microsurgical specialties like ophthalmology. His work has received recognition and support through the NIH Pathway to Independence Award (K99/R00) and the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award (DP2). He has had the privilege of mentoring nearly 40 students and trainees at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels.
