Biography

Dorota Skowronska-Krawczyk is a faculty member in the Departments of Physiology and Biophysics, and Ophthalmology at the UCI School of Medicine, and a member of the Center for Translational Vision Research (CTVR). She earned her MSc in Biology from the University of Warsaw and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Geneva, where she studied the molecular basis of retinal development. She completed postdoctoral training at the Jules Gonin Ophthalmic Hospital in Lausanne and at UC San Diego.
Dr. Skowronska-Krawczyk’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of aging, particularly in relation to age-related eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. Her lab investigates how aging affects cellular, metabolic, and gene expression programs, with a focus on identifying therapeutic strategies—especially through repurposing FDA-approved drugs for potential clinical use in ophthalmology. Her work is supported by the NIH, BrightFocus Foundation, Glaucoma Research Foundation, Research to Prevent Blindness, and the Thome Memorial Foundation. Her findings have been published in leading journals including Nature, Nature Methods, Molecular Cell, and Aging Cell.

Dr. Skowronska-Krawczyk is dedicated to advancing translational research that bridges basic science and clinical care in vision health.
