Anaïs Françon is a postdoctoral fellow at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont research center in the Sapieha laboratory. She earned a master’s degree in Genetics at the Université Paris Diderot, Paris and a PhD in Toxicology at the Université Paris Cité, Paris. Her PhD focused on the phototoxicity of new lighting technologies (LED) on rodent eyes and human retinal pigment epithelial cells, giving her strong expertise in the use of rodent models and stems cells to study retinal degeneration. Her work led to the publication of 5 papers during her PhD, including 4 as first author. She also received 2 awards for her PhD in 2024, from the Académie Nationale de Pharmacie, France and the Chancellerie des Université de Paris, France. Before joining the Sapieha laboratory, she did a year postdoc at the Centre de Recherche des Cordeliers, Paris, studying the effect of different lighting conditions on DNA damage and repair in corneal cells. Anaïs Françon is now working on the effect of various factors such as sleep deficiency and bacterial infection, on the development of angiogenesis in AMD, at the interface of immunology and ophthalmology.
