Biography

Gavin W. Roddy, M.D., Ph.D., seeks to care for patients with glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, from the clinic and operating room as well as the research laboratory. Since he is a clinician, Dr. Roddy performs clinical research studies to determine systemic risk factors for glaucoma. Dr. Roddy’s key areas of interest in the research laboratory include further study of a novel approach to treat glaucoma that avoids the requirement of daily eyedrop therapy (focus of this Bright Focus grant) as well as understanding mechanisms of retinal ganglion cell loss that may lead to the development of novel neuroprotective therapies for the treatment of glaucoma.
