Jan Stouffer has over 30 years of experience in research and development.  Most of her career was at the DuPont Company, where she led scientists and engineers to develop new polymer products and processes.  Early in her career as a polymer physicist, she worked on a team to develop a new polymer process and was awarded 12 US patents.  As Global Product Stewardship and Regulatory Manager for DuPont Performance Materials ($6 billion business) she directed global teams to ensure all products met chemical regulatory compliance and could be shipped internationally.  The products went into sensitive applications including medical devices, food contact, toys and cosmetics.  She held leadership roles in operations, as the Production Manager for a high-hazard Teflon(R) unit; and in marketing, supporting the oil and gas and automotive industries.  She developed expertise in technology strategy and implementation; intellectual property creation and litigation; new product and process development; mergers, acquisitions and divestitures; and international regulatory compliance.

Stouffer holds a BS in Chemistry and Economics from the College of William & Mary; and an MS and PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

"I have personally been touched by all three of the age-related diseases that BrightFocus has targeted to cure.  I witnessed how my grandfather's life was impacted by macular degeneration and now my mother strives daily to combat the progression of glaucoma.  I have supported several friends as their parents slowly slipped away with Alzheimer's disease.  As a scientist, I am excited to work with the diverse talents on the Board to ensure that BrightFocus continues to be able to fund researchers internationally to find a cure for these diseases of mind and sight."
