Alzheimer's Workshop: Emerging Concepts in Alzheimer's Research

Workshop Summary

The BrightFocus Foundation and the International Alzheimer Research Foundation, in collaboration with the European Graduate School of Neuroscience, organized the third edition of this workshop as a satellite event of the Society for Neuroscience annual meeting in New Orleans, LA, USA.

The October 10-12 workshop provided graduate and post-doctoral students an overview of current knowledge and new directions in Alzheimer's disease research. During this interactive master class, prominent scientists and young researchers from all over the world met in a closed venue and engaged in in-depth discussions. The areas covered were:

  • Energy metabolism in aging and AD
  • Diabetes and AD
  • Stress hormones and AD
  • Epigenetics
  • Biomarkers of aging
  • Use of stem cells
  • Virus-based approaches and transgenic models of AD
  • Amyloid and tau pathology

  • Blood brain barrier in aging and AD
  • Immunotherapy for AD
