Ligue Européenne Contre La Maladie d'Alzheimer

The Ligue Européenne Contre la Maladie d'Alzheimer (European League Against Alzheimer's Disease or LECMA) was founded by BrightFocus in April 2005. With BrightFocus' support, LECMA became established in France, raising money to fund French public and not-for-profit research programs. Since 2005, LECMA has funded 21 research programs, contributing more than 1,2 million Euros.

Three brochures created by BrightFocus were translated and adapted into French for LECMA's use: Understanding Alzheimer's Disease; Staying Safe: Wandering & the Alzheimer's Patient; and Care for the Caregiver: Managing Stress. These brochures gave LECMA the impetus to create new brochures and enrich its educational material. The demand for these free brochures increases every month.

Geraldine Drexel De Buchy has served as LECMA's executive director since December 2007. She studied French literature, English, and German at La Sorbonne in Paris. After teaching literature for several years, she worked in film production and development. Passionate about the nonprofit field, she enthusiastically accepted the position as LECMA's executive director in 2007, determined to help develop LECMA and its research and education programs in France.
