BrightFocus Foundation Launches Digital Campaign to Mark World Alzheimer’s Day

Free Resources Available to Help Understand, Manage Brain Health

Clarksburg MD — BrightFocus Foundation today announced a digital campaign for September 21 World Alzheimer’s Day, including a powerful new video and online resources to increase public awareness of the disease.

“Alzheimer’s exacts a staggering human and financial toll,” said BrightFocus President and CEO Stacy Pagos Haller. “Through research, we will slow, treat, and ultimately end this disease.  At the same time, through greater public awareness, we can help people better understand and manage their brain health.”

More than 50 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer’s, a number that experts say could triple by mid-century. In the United States, two thirds of those with Alzheimer’s are women.  Latinos and African Americans have Alzheimer’s at greater rates than other groups.

Resources available include key information on disease symptoms and management; a clinical trial finder to locate nearby opportunities to participate in clinical research; and a free resource, Clinical Trials: Your Questions Answered, a guide for those considering volunteering in a research study.

Through its Alzheimer’s Disease Research program, BrightFocus is currently supporting over 100 science projects around the globe.  Additionally, BrightFocus is a presentation partner of Turning Point, a new documentary by acclaimed filmmaker James Keach spotlighting scientists and clinical trial participants working to stop Alzheimer’s. 

BrightFocus Foundation is a premier source of private research funding to defeat diseases of mind and sight – Alzheimer’s, macular degeneration and glaucoma. The nonprofit organization manages a global portfolio of nearly 200 research projects representing a $40 million investment to find cures for these diseases.
