On October 27, 2016, BrightFocus hosted an event at The Briar Club in Houston. We convened a distinguished panel to explore key questions on scientific research, therapeutic development, and caregiving support for Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
Kim Campbell, wife and caregiver to country music legend Glen Campbell, has made it her mission to improve the quality of life for people impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. The Campbell family shared their story in the award-winning documentary Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, and she continues her work through her blog and lifestyle guide CareLiving. org. Kim has won numerous awards for her courage in sharing her family’s story to bring awareness to the plight of Alzheimer’s caregivers.
Joseph Masdeu, MD, PhD
Dr. Masdeu has more than 30 years of experience as clinician, researcher, and leader in Alzheimer’s and neuroimaging. He holds the Graham Family Distinguished Endowed Chair for Neurological Sciences and serves as the Director of the Nantz National Alzheimer Center. He has led major professional associations such the American Academy of Neurology and the American Society of Neuroimaging, and he has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neuroimaging. Dr. Masdeu has authored 144 peer-reviewed papers and seven books.
Hui Zheng, PhD
Dr. Zheng is the Director of the Huffington Center on Aging at Baylor College of Medicine. She is a professor
of Molecular & Human Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Neuroscience, Integrative Molecular & Biomedical Sciences, Developmental Biology, and Translational Biology & Molecular Medicine. She leads the Hui Zheng Lab, which seeks to identify novel therapeutic strategies targeting amyloid and neurofibrillary tangles. She has served on the Scientific Review Committee for BrightFocus Foundation’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research program.
Barry Warner is a Houston sports radio legend, and has been actively involved in both media and marketing for seven decades. His extensive sports knowledge and controversial style is evident in several facets of the industry. He has served as an analyst for the Rockets, the Denver Nuggets, Southwest Conference football, baseball, and basketball, and most recently has a national audience on SB Nation and ESPN FM. In addition to delivering motivational speeches about multicultural marketing, he has a strong history of involvement in charitable organizations.
