Cell-based Regenerative Medicine for Retinal Diseases

Dr. Wei Liu has been awarded a Macular Degeneration Research grant to pursue therapies for age-related macular degeneration. He is a research assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences and in the Department of Genetics in Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He earned his Ph.D. degree in the Institute of Biophysics Chinese Academy of Sciences, and he received his postdoctoral training in St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Liu's research interests are molecular mechanisms of retinal cell differentiation and related retinal diseases, aimed at bringing the field closer to cell-based regenerative medicine for treating retinal diseases.
