Special Tax-Free Gift Option for 2014

For those over age 70½, it is once again possible to make tax-favored charitable gifts from traditional and Roth IRA accounts.

On December 19 legislation was signed into law that extends this special opportunity for gifts completed in 2014. Amounts given in this way will count toward 2014 required IRA withdrawal amounts.

A total of up to $100,000 can be transferred directly from traditional or Roth IRAs to BrightFocus or one of our programs free of federal income tax. There may also be state income tax savings.

To make such gifts, it is important to not withdraw funds prior to a gift, but distribute them directly to us from your IRA. For those with check writing privileges on their accounts, this may be the most efficient way to make gifts directly from an IRA.

Phone or contact Bridget Shea at 1-800-437-2423 (bshea@brightfocus.org) or your IRA administrator for more information.

Gift Planning: Ways to Create a Lasting Legacy

Ways to Give and Create a Lasting LegacyGift planning is a way for you to help us fight Alzheimer's disease, macular degeneration and glaucoma. It may also enable you to receive a stream of income for life, provide a charitable income tax deduction, and reduce or eliminate estate taxes. The bequest you make will serve as a significant tribute to your legacy.

A will or Trust also provides a legal record of your wishes concerning the distribution of your assets after your death. More importantly, you will leave a lasting symbol of your love to all those people, both family and friends, who have been such an important part of your life. It is important to select the best gift planning options that meet your financial and philanthropic goals.

There are many ways you can leave a lasting legacy. Please click on the links below for a more detailed description of each gift planning option.
