BrightFocus is seeking part-time volunteers who are motivated, caring people with a passion for helping to improve the lives of people impacted by Alzheimer's disease, macular degeneration, or glaucoma…and for supporting efforts to end those diseases. Public Education Materials Distribution Volunteers
Location: Nationwide
We're seeking Materials Distributors (Level 1 and Level 2) to help inform people about the diseases BrightFocus addresses.
Level 1 Distributors would deliver our publications, flyers, fact sheets, and other print information to doctors' offices, libraries, health fairs, work sites, support groups, and assisted living communities. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently and outside of the office environment. Skills: Current valid driver's license, safe driving skills, ability to lift 20+ pound packages.
Level 2 Distributors would search the internet for organizations and opportunities where BrightFocus could display materials. Volunteer would contact the organizations to offer the BrightFocus materials and would deliver them to the locations identified. Volunteer could also send online links to interested parties via email. Skills: Current valid driver's license, safe driving skills, ability to lift 20+ pound packages, good verbal communication skills, experience with internet search.

Video Internship
Location: Clarksburg, MD (Washington DC Metropolitan Area)
We're looking for a video intern to support public information efforts, including creation and/or editing of videos and other multimedia presentations during the Fall of 2012. The intern will learn how a nonprofit organization functions, working across disciplines to understand Development, Communications, and Scientific Affairs. They will help with creating new videos, strengthening existing videos, adding a video component to existing podcasts, implementing strategies for gathering footage, providing sound and color correction, re-editing older videos, conducting interviews, and supporting various communication, social media, and web projects as they arise.
Skills: Final Cut Pro Studio, experience shooting and editing video from a HD format cameras, and knowledge of video formats and technical specifications used in the production of video for the web

Public Information Internship
Location: Clarksburg, MD (Washington DC Metropolitan Area)
We're looking for a public information intern to support public information efforts, including conducting research and creating public health and marketing communications materials during the Fall of 2012. The intern will learn how a nonprofit organization functions, working across disciplines to understand Development, Communications, and Scientific Affairs. The intern will create new public health materials and shepherd the process from creation to production, and strengthen his/her ability to think on one's feet, work with a team, conduct research and pragmatically apply it, and hone her/his health communications skills.

Administrative Support
Location: Clarksburg, MD (Washington DC Metropolitan Area)
We're looking for an Administrative Assistant to help with general office tasks such as filing both hard-copy and electronic versions of documents, scanning and renaming scanned PDF documents for correct electronic filing, creating an archive list, etc. This is an excellent position for an office worker looking for a new position who wants to keep his/her skills and references current.

Video Producer/Editor
Location: Clarksburg, MD (Washington, DC Metropolitan Area)
We're looking for a skilled sound and/or video editor to help with PSA creation, podcast creation, and other multimedia presentations that can be used to further the BrightFocus mission.
Skills: Editing and improving BrightFocus video or audio projects. Knowledge of Final Cut Pro 7 and audio editing software, such as Audacity or Soundtrack Pro, and of Motion 4 is a plus, but not required. Ideally, candidate will have access to own editing equipment.

Photographers/Videographers

To better communicate the work we do, we need images of people whose lives have been impacted by Alzheimer's disease, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. If you are a professional or amateur photographer or videographer, we ask you to take photos and videos to help describe the work being done by our nonprofit or the reasons our research and public information activities are so greatly needed. Quality photographs can illustrate how disease impacts millions around the world, and individuals bravely fight against losing their independence. This opportunity is available for anyone from art students seeking to improve their portfolios to family members helping loved ones cope with their day-to-day realities.
Skills: Photography or video shooting. Ability to transfer images to BrightFocus.

Media Assistant
Location: Clarksburg, MD (Washington, DC Metropolitan Area)
We are seeking a part-time volunteer Media Assistant who will organize our large and ever-growing photo and video files. The project goal is to ensure that staff members can locate photos and videos for outreach purposes quickly and accurately.
Skills: Ideal candidate will be highly organized, efficient, and have experience working online with computer files.

CFC Event Ambassador
Event Time & Location:
We're currently looking for part-time volunteer Event Ambassadors to represent BrightFocus at Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) events for our Alzheimer's Disease Research program. The ideal candidate is comfortable communicating in public settings and cares deeply about helping those who have been impacted by Alzheimer's disease.
Skills: Comfortable with speaking to event attendees, positive attitude, strong ability to communicate with CFC attendees verbally, and with BrightFocus contact person via phone and email.
