Public Service Announcements - Macular Degeneration

Learning About Macular Degeneration at BrightFocus' Children's Corner

BrightFocus Foundation would like to thank Live Oak School, in San Francisco, California, for participating in this public service announcement.

When my daughter asked me to come to her school to talk about my job, I wasn't sure if “clinician scientist” would be very interesting to her classmates.

But when I told them that my research might prevent their grandparents from losing their sight, that got their attention.

I'm working with the BrightFocus Foundation to find a cure for macular degeneration, a debilitating eye disease.

Macular degeneration is a leading cause of vision loss for people over 60, affecting over 11 million Americans.

It's important to let young people know how to take care of their sight.

I told the children about brightfocus.org/kids, a website created just for them...where families learn about the disease, using interactive games…stories and other activities.

Visit the Children's Corner or call 1-800-437-2423 for free information about macular degeneration.

That's BrightFocus.org/kids or 1-800-437-2423.
