2016 BrightFocus Foundation Expense Percentages: 81% to programs, 13% to fundraising, and 6% to management.

* BrightFocus received in-kind donations to expand public health information outreach and these are included in Program Services expenses. This allowed the organization to reach millions of people with information about risk factors, treatments, and caregiving.

BrightFocus Foundation communicates with the public through postal mail and other means to encourage financial support for our mission to drive innovative research worldwide; promote awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, macular degeneration, and glaucoma; and encourage the public to take action to better manage their health.  We widely share information on symptoms, treatments, and prevention of these diseases.  As a result, in accordance with the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) guidelines, BrightFocus Foundation allocates a portion of our direct mail costs to program services.

BrightFocus is a nonprofit organization designated under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions to BrightFocus and its programs are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. The foundation is supported entirely by voluntary private contributions.
